National Route 146, which stretches from Naka Karuizawa station toward northbound, is also called Japan Romantic Expressway. This road connects Karuizawa, Tsumagoi, and Kusatsu through popular Hoshino resort area.
You find Kita (North) Karuizawa area just after you cross the prefecture border from Nagano to Gunma on Route 146. Basically, Kita Karuizawa is the name of one of major district of Naganohara town, but some real estate people often include a part of Tsumagoi Village as "Kita Karuizawa" from resort estate marketing point of view.
Daigakumura (University Village. Clicking the link leads you to Hosei University's explanation page in Japanese) is one of Kita Karuizawa villa districts, and it has very unique history. Initially, the president of Hosei University released his privately owned land to develop highland resort area for scholars and university workers, and people involved in this project named this place "Kita Karuizawa" since it is situated in the north of Karuizawa. Currently, anybody (not necessarily university related people) can purchase acreage here, but one is requested to follow "agreement" set by "union" to keep this beautiful and clean villa district environment. There is a very beautiful lake called Shogetu-ko (Moon Lake) at north of Daigakumura. This lake sometimes becomes main reason for villa owners to purchase their house in this district.
This property is located at three directional corner location in Daigakumura. Will you start your tranquil resort life in this much fresher and cleaner highland in higher altitude location than Karuizawa?
