Sakuragaoka is a villa district that stretches to the south of the Kariyado Junction on National Route 18.  Kariyado Junction is a major transportation hub where National Route 18, the National Route 18 Bypass, and the recently constructed Kariyado Bypass converge.  It is known in the town as a congestion-prone point, but on the other hand, it is an easily accessible place where it is easy to get anywhere.

The Sakuragaoka neighborhood was transformed in 2016 with the opening of the foreign-owned Karuizawa Marriott Hotel.  The Sakuragaoka area to the south of the Marriott had previously been a secluded forested villa area, but in recent years, residences for permanent residents have increased and become noticeable.  It is located close to both Naka Karuizawa and Oiwake, this area has been reevaluated for its high convenience of living.
