Sandoyama is a hilly villa area overlooking Shin-Karuizawa’s Yagasaki to the south and Kyu Karuizawa’s Kamanosawa to the north.

From Nitobe Street in Yagasaki, where the villa of Inazo Nitobe is known to have been located, turn north at the corner of the former Nitobe Villa and cross the bridge over the Yagasaki River to find the Whispering Lane (Sasayaki no Michi), a path that appears in Tatsuo Hori's "Beautiful Village.” With the Yagasaki River flowing along the path and beautiful acacia trees along the road, the path is well known as a walking path for townspeople and tourists.

Further south from the southern end of the Whispering Lane, a slope appears. This is the entrance to Sandoyama. The northern slope of Sandoyama has been used to create a villa area that emphasizes a beautiful view of Mount Asama and Mt Hanare. It is hard to find another place with this view, Within walking distance from Karuizawa station on the Shinkansen bullet train line.
